AI Overviews eligibility checklist

A. Three eligibility checks (every page you want linked in an AI Overview)
[ ] 1. The page is indexed.
       Search Console > URL Inspection shows "URL is on Google".
[ ] 2. The page is eligible to show a snippet.
       No nosnippet or noindex in the robots meta tag or X-Robots-Tag header,
       and no max-snippet:0.
[ ] 3. The site is included in Search generative AI features in Search Console.
       Google's AI optimization guide (updated 10 July 2026) makes this a
       condition of eligibility. Check the setting in your property.

B. Four snippet controls that limit a page in AI Overviews
   <meta name="robots" content="nosnippet">       no snippet, so no AI Overview link
   data-nosnippet on an HTML element             marked text is not shown or used
   <meta name="robots" content="max-snippet:[n]"> caps the text Google shows at n characters
   <meta name="robots" content="noindex">         page leaves the index entirely
   Google-Extended in robots.txt does NOT control AI Overviews.

C. Where AI Overview impressions are reported
   Search Console: the Generative AI performance report
   Surfaces: AI Overviews and AI Mode
   Metric: impressions (links to your site shown in a generative AI feature)
   Dimensions: page, country, device, date
   Clicks from AI features are counted in the main Performance report
   under the "Web" search type.
